Girls Generation Into the New World First Single

Girls Generation
"Into the New World" (Korean: Dasi Mannan Segye) is a song and the first single by South Korean girl group Girls' Generation. The single was released on August 5, 2007.

The song was originally intended to be a title track for a then-SM Entertainment group M.I.L.K.'s second album.

History
The song was produced by the founder and chairman of famous Korean music company SM Entertainment, Lee Soo Man.

Music video
The music video features a small amount of dance scenes. The video starts with a plane landing, followed by a silhouette of the girls forming a line and then dancing. During this, text appears saying “Into the New World, Or Not.. It’s Up to Your Choice.. [sic]”. Throughout the music video, it shows the girls doing activities, either alone or coupled with another member, a unite in the dance scenes. The activities done by the girls are:

Yoona is designing clothes for a boutique.
Taeyeon is flying a light aircraft with Sooyoung accompanying her. In the video, the light aircraft Taeyeon flies is broken, and she attempts to repair it, with Sooyoung praying. The light aircraft is successfully repaired and both of them are happy. In the last part of this scene, Sooyoung is seen chasing Taeyeon's light aircraft.
Yuri is a café employee, and she is seen making a cup of latte. In one scene she puts a pot of flowers onto a desk.
Hyoyeon is purchasing a pair of white training shoes at a department store, after which she dances on a stairway.
Sunny and Jessica are making graffiti. The graffiti says "New World 2007". In the graffiti scene, Jessica is seen wearing a cannabis-leaf-shaped necklace.
Tiffany is repairing a scooter and repaints its body with pink color with flower motif and customizing its license plate. The customized license plate says "Tiffany" with the hanja version of Girls' Generation above it. There's a unique fact about the scooter: it actually belongs to Super Junior's Shindong, but then, Shindong sold with all of Super Junior's signatures on it because it had been repainted.
Seohyun is doing ballet while holding a paper plane, on the rooftop of a building.
There are two dance settings featured in the video. The first one is a room with a white background, and the second one is a lobby of a shopping mall.

Release
The song was originally first performed by the group in SBS's The Music Trend on August 5, 2007. "Into the New World" reached #1 on Mnet's M! Countdown. Over 100,000 copies of the single were sold.[citation needed]

Girls Generation Run Devil Run

"Run Devil Run" is song by South Korean girl group, Girls' Generation. It was the lead single of the repackage of Oh!, titled Run Devil Run.

Background
"Run Devil Run" was written by American songwriters, Alex James and Busbee, with Swedish songwriter Kalle Engström. The song was first recorded by American singer-songwriter Ke$ha in 2008 while pre-production of her debut album, Animal was occurring. However, Ke$ha never included the song on the album. The song remained untouched for the next two years until executives at Universal Music Group sold the rights of the song to SM Entertainment, after this, Korean songwriter Hong Ji-yoo was brought on to translate and rearrange the English version of the song into Korean. Ke$ha's version of the song leaked in January, 2010.

Charting
The song reached #1 on various online charts after its release.[citation needed] Its first #1 on network television was on KBS's Music Bank, where it won over Kara's "Lupin" and 2AM's "Jalmothaesseo" (I Did Wrong). Moreover, "Run Devil Run" was ranked #1 at South Korean Gaon Music Chart for two weeks.

Promotions
Starting from March 11, 2010, photos of the members were released online showcasing a dark concept, so called Black SoShi.
In the run of promotions for the song, an official iPhone application was released, available in free and paid versions. The free version has 30-second previews for all the songs on the album, a music video for “Run Devil Run” and a few photographs. The paid version has full tracks for all the songs on the album, music videos for “Run Devil Run”, “Gee”, “Oh!” and “Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)”, and a photo gallery.
They concluded their song promotions by the May 2, 2010 in SBS' Inkigayo

Music video
The music video was filmed secretly in January 2010, together with their song “Oh!”. A teaser video was released on March 16, 2010. The music video for "Run Devil Run" was released on March 18. They also released a story version on March 31, 2010.

Original version
The original video contains two settings: a white room and a black room. Throughout the video, there are scenes of the girls dancing in these rooms, and there are individual close-ups of their own unique Black SoShi looks. At the end of the video, the girls are shown in the black room, after which the video ends similar to a TV shutting off.

Story version

The video continues the story of "Oh!" in which they meet the Black SoShi, their malevolent and darker selves, at the end of the video. The story video starts with rewinding the “Oh!” video to the part in which Sooyoung accidentally mishandles an American football helmet, which knocks over a cup causing it to spill a liquid on the computer. This crashes the computer, after which the "Black SoShi" escape from it. After they escaped, they began messing up and disarranging the room. Three-quarters of the way into the video, the band enter the room and meet the Black SoShi. The video ends when Yuri unplugs the computer, sending the Black SoShi back into their own dimension, after which they clean up the mess that the Black SoShi left. While doing this, Hyoyeon taps the computer monitor lightly, which reopens the portal to the parallel

Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)

Girls Generation"Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)"; stylized as GENIE in Japan) is the lead single from the mini-album of the same title by South Korean girl group Girls' Generation. Released digitally on June 22, 2009, the song became the group's 6th hit Korean single, topping various offline and online charts.

Background and composition
After the success of the last mini-album Gee, the group had a short hiatus. In late June, SM Entertainment announced that Girls' Generation would be making a comeback with a new single and showing a "Marine Girl" concept; Sowoneul Malhaebwa was then released digitally on June 22, 2009. The group's first performance for the mini-album was on June 26 on KBS Music Bank. Within a few days, the song topped on 10 different digital music charts. The song was also rewarded as the most popular album and ringtone downloads.

Girls Generation

Composed by Anne Judith Wik, Robin Jenssen, Ronny Svendsen, Nermin Harambasic and Fridolin Nordso (Dsign Music), the song was originally titled "I Just Wanna Dance". After SM Entertainment had purchased the rights to the song, the lyrical story of the song was re-written with additional composition by Yoo Young-jin, and the melody arranged by Yoo Han-jin.[8] The original song, I Just Wanna Dance, is a song about ones lust to dance. However, in the re-worked version, the song discusses someone granting the wishes of their partner. Originally, SNSD recorded the song as "I Just Wanna Wish," and was rehearsed to by the girls, however, the song was quickly revised shortly before release, and changed to "Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)." Differences in the demo version, and the official, is most notably the presence of an ad-libbed bridge performed by Jessica, and the second chorus in which “Sowoneul Malhaebwa" (Tell Me Your Wish) is replaced by "I just wanna wish." As well as these, differences between this version and the Japanese version compared to the Korean version can be heard. In the Korean version, the outro features the girls playing around singing “Sowoneul Malhaebwa" whereas, in the other version, this is not heard.

"Tell Me Your Wish" is an electropop song, with influence of eurodance. The song features a synthesized intro performed by Yoo Young-jin, heard at the start of the Korean version, with the line, "Just turn it up, that's right, come on!". His voice is also used in the Korean music video, with the lines "Hey" and "Girls' Generation" being heard. The sound technique of, Musique concrète during the last chorus, in which group leader and main vocalist, Taeyeon, sings above the eight other girls - Tell me your fantasy, without holding back. I'll show you the genie's path. Tell me your wish, without holding back, I, your genie, will grant them. While the other girls sing the traditional chorus.

Japanese debut
"Genie" (stylised GENIE) is the official title for the debut in Japanese. The single was the first ever Japanese single released by Girls' Generation on September 8, 2010 in Japan. A new version of the music video was filmed to accompany the Japanese version, and the teaser was released on August 19, 2010. On August 26, 2010, the full music video was released. The song reached #5 on Oricon Charts on the releasing day. The song reached #2 on September 11, 2010. The song was released in three editions, two CD+DVD (first press and regular), and a CD Only edition. First press CD+DVD edition includes a special photobook and a random (1 of 9) photocard. The single includes also includes the Korean version, Tell Me Your Wish (Genie).
It was selected by iTunes Japan as the #1 Breakthrough Album of 2010 on 2010: Music, 2010 BEST chart.

Music videos
The choreographer was Rino Nakasone Razalan.

Korean version

The teaser video was released at 9:20 p.m. (KT) on June 19, 2009. Later, the original video was released on June 26, 2009. In the music video, Yoona appears first sitting in a large lamp, the other members sitting around her. The music video cuts back and forth between the group performing the choreography and scenes from three separate rooms occupied by three different members each. Yoona, Yuri and Jessica are in a large pink bedroom, Tiffany, Taeyeon and Sunny are in a dance club or disco bar, while Seohyun, Sooyoung and Hyoyeon are in a room there is a large cake from which Seohyun pops out. The girls wear white uniforms and perform on a long runway-like stage with a large heart in the background, while on the other they are in khaki uniforms with the words "GIRLS' GENIE" in the background. The music video frequently shows the girls interacting with the camera and with arms that sometimes extend from either side of the screen to give the impression that the girls are interacting with the viewer personally. The stage sequences have heavy, flashy lights and moving spotlights to give strong and bright effects.

Girls Generation
Japanese version
The music video teaser was released August 16, 2010 and the full music video was released August 25, 2010, it was also their first video to be filmed in Japan.
It begins with a young boy (EXO's Chanyeol) who found an old lamp and a scale model of a circus tent in an old attic. After rubbing the lamp, the camera zooms inside the tent where the Girls' Generation can be seen coming to life as the song begins to play. The girls then alternately switch to different costumes as the boy rubs the lamp once again, where in they are seen on an old television screen with a huge candy cane and colorful balloons. The music video ends with the boy rubbing the lamp again before magically disappearing into another scene where he is walking out of a limousine with Girls' Generation members meeting him on the red carpet at a premiere event. It is implied that his wish had been granted by lamp. There are also individual close-up scenes of members dressed in old fashioned pink shirts.
Most of the choreography remains the same as the Korean version, with a slight tweak to some of the steps. The difference is that in the Japanese version there are some parts where member Taeyeon moves to the front position to sing her solo verse before going back and rejoining the other girls to form a line. While in the Korean version, Taeyeon does not do this. Also, all the girls pose with a hand salute at the end. In the Korean version, only member Seohyun does it as her "end pose".
A dance version was also released which features the girls wearing their brown soldier uniforms which were one of the costumes that they wore in the music

3D Version (Korean)

On October 24, 2010 a 3D music video of the Korean version, was released for Samsung PAVV LED TV. The video begins with all nine girls sitting down, looking into crystal balls, then cutting into the beginning of the song with "Girls Generation" written in pink, sparkly lettering. The video features three dance sequences, one of which features a floor with cosmic-like sparkles coming out of it. During the video, it cuts to solo scenes of the girls playing with the crystal balls, inside are a man and a woman standing awkwardly beside each other at a bus stop, beside them is a poster with "I Wish" printed on it, and a red Mini Convertible is below it. The girls are then seen changing the couples clothes, and making the Mini appear out of the poster, signifying the girls are 'genies' and granting their wishes. The video ends with the girls waving goodbye to the couple, who then drive off in the car, with the number '37' printed on the side. The outfits worn by the girls follow the typical 'military' style, with two costumes being used. One featuring a black coat, tie and short-shorts, and a white undershirt. The other being all white, topped off with a white navy-esque hat.

Live performance style
On stage, the girls were given a "military" concept for their performance of Tell Me Your Wish, dressing mostly in tight military jackets, miniskirts, and/or hot pants. The colours were mostly white navy shirts, khaki brown, and red,[9] although various uniforms were shown. The group wished to show a mature image, in comparison to the innocence portrayed during Gee. The choreography of the song, done by Rino Nakasone, was focused on synchronization and seductive images. Parts of the choreography became popular in Korea, including the "Jegi-kicking dance" and the "Leg-beauty dance".
The song has been performed on two SMTown tours, In 2010, using the "Rock Tronic" remix, which was also used on their first tour, and then again in 2011 for the continuation of the 2010 SMTown tour. The remix contains a rock inspired dance-break, where the girls perform in-sync routines, the echo of the line sowoneul marhaebwa (Tell me your wish) can be heard, also.
"Genie" was featured as the opening number for the Girls' first Japan tour, and on the 2nd Asia tour. The performance begins with the girls appearing from an odd-shaped cocoon-like prop, where they are assembled in the shape of a pyramid; Taeyeon on top, followed by Jessica and Tiffany, then the remaining girls, Seohyun, Hyoyeon, Sunny, YoonA, Yuri and Sooyoung, on the third level. The song starts with Taeyeon singing the first line of Genie, and then is repeated by Jessica and Tiffany, and then again by the remaining girls, then, the girls begin to sing the song. The remix features a rap interlude performed by Tiffany;

Welcome to my show, it's a revolution
This is my Girls' Generation
Everyone rock with me, take it in all right
Get hype! Jump! Let's party all night
I know we the ones to make you super crazy
Wanna be your genie more than one night
Watchin' me, feelin' me, callin' my name
I just want you and me to feel the same
Come on and move it, put your hands up in the air
Everybody lose control, and hands up in the air.

After the rap, Tiffany replaces the word "DJ" in the line "DJ, put it back on," with the specific city, or venue, they are performing at. They perform at Japan, for example; Tiffany would say "Japan, put it back on!" During their performance of the song at the 62nd NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen in 2011, Tiffany says "Akagumi, put it back on!" as they were part of the all-female Akagumi (red team).

Other versions and plagiarism Issues
Issues of plagiarism were caused by Uzbek singer Dineyra's song "Raqsga Tushgin". It was revealed that although the release of her song preceded the release of Girls' Generation's second mini-album, the Uzbekistan singer's song was recorded without obtaining proper permission from Universal Music, thus plagiarising Tell Me Your Wish (Genie).]
On May 19, 2010 Dutch singer Nathalie Makoma released her second single named "I Just Wanna Dance." However, Nathalie sings the original English lyrics that were written for the song. On June 3, 2011 British singer C.J. Lewis released an English Version of Genie.

Gee, Girls Generation Album

"Gee" is the lead single from the album Gee by K-pop girl group Girls' Generation. It was released on online music sites on January 5, 2009, with the physical release of the EP on January 7. It quickly went to #1 on various charts and eventually set a record for longest-running #1 on KBS's music chart show Music Bank, staying at that position for 9 consecutive weeks.

Background
Various media outlets reported that Girls' Generation would return in January 2009, after a 9-month hiatus. The song's release was preceded by various teaser posters around Seoul, released on December 26, and a 25-second teaser video. After its digital release, interest in the song rose greatly, topping Cyworld's hourly music chart on the day of release and topping 6 different digital music charts within two days.

Japanese version
On October 20, 2010 a Japanese version of "Gee" was released in three versions on CD and DVD. At the end of September, the Japanese "Gee" version was released to be played on radio stations.

Composition

"Gee" is a fast-tempo song about a girl who has fallen in love for the first time. The title is supposed to be an exclamation of surprise, similar to "어머나!" (Eomeona!, similar in meaning to "Oh, my goodness!", or, more similarly, "Gee!" in English).

Chart performance
South Korea
A week after its release, "Gee" went #1 on Music Bank; however, questions were raised when the group did not appear on the program, with rumors spreading regarding a possible rift between SM Entertainment and KBS. "Gee" also went to #1 on SBS's 인기가요 (Inkigayo) a week after their return.
"Gee" first tied with "Nobody" by the Wonder Girls for the longest-running #1 on music portal M.Net (6 weeks). The song then broke the record by staying on top a seventh week, and remained in the position for an eighth week. It also tied then broke the record for longest-running #1 on KBS's Music Bank, beating the 7-week record previously set by Jewelry in 2008 with "One More Time". "Gee" achieved its ninth #1 on the show on March 13, 2009.
SM Entertainment stated that over 100,000 copies of the mini-album were shipped to stores, while sales analyst company Hanteo reported sales in excess of 30,000 copies within the first 10 days of its release.

Japan
Girls' Generation also had success in Japan with their second Japanese single "Gee". They took second place and were crowned the first ever overseas girl group to claim this position. On October 26, 2010 it was announced that their Japanese 2nd single "Gee" reached #1 on the Oricon Daily chart, making them the first non-Japanese Asian girl group to reach number 1 on the chart. The song was ranked fifty-seventh on the Japan Hot 100 2010 year-end chart. On April 20, 2011, the girls added another accomplishment to their belt as the RIAJ (Recording Industry Association of Japan) website updated their charts showing that SNSD's Chaku Uta Full (ringtones) downloads for "Gee" went Double Platinum. The RIAJ certifies Platinum as moving 250,000 units, so Double Platinum would mean that the girls had over 500,000 downloads for "Gee".

International releases and promotions
Japan
A Japanese version of "The Boys" was produced for the repackaged album of Girls' Generation, released on December 28, 2011. It included the song "Time Machine", for which an MV was revealed on March 13, 2012. However, it was never officially promoted on Japanese TV broadcasts. On December 19, 2011, Girls' Generation performed the Japanese version of "The Boys" live on the Japanese TV reality show, Hey! Hey! Hey! Music Champ.

North America
"The Boys" was announced for an American release on November 19, 2011 under their American label Interscope Records, but after postponement, the single was released digitally on December 20 instead. SM Entertainment confirmed that the girls would promote their debut US single, "The Boys" on the late-night talk show the Late Show with David Letterman and on syndicated daytime talk show Live! with Kelly on January 31 and February 1 respectively.

The Boys was released in the US on January 17, 2012. This marks Girls' Generation's first physical release in the country, using the Korean single cover of the title track as the American album cover. With the exception of the English version of the title track, the entire album consists of Korean-language songs, all of which were taken from the original edition of The Boys. In addition, four remixes of "The Boys" are included in the US edition, the first of which features American rapper Snoop Dogg.

Europe
The album charted both in Spain and France at position #64 and #130 respectively for one week.

Commercial performance
The Boys has been commercially successful in Asian regions. It debuted at #1 on South Korea's Gaon Weekly Albums chart, and had sold over 400,000 copies in South Korea alone. The album peaked at #2 on the Oricon Weekly Albums Chart, the standard album chart of Japan, with sales records of more than 100,000 copies in the country. In addition, the album moved 26,000 copies in Taiwan.

The US edition of The Boys has not replicated the same commercial performance as it did in its native country; the album failed to enter the Billboard 200, but debuted at #2 on the Billboard World Albums[5] and re-entered the Heatseekers Album Chart at #17.

In latter half of January, it was announced that the group would be returning to the Japanese market through the release of their Japanese version of "Run Devil Run" as a digital single, released on January 25, 2011.

2010: Oh!/Run Devil Run, Japanese debut and Hoot

Later in January, SM Entertainment confirmed the release of Oh!, the group's second full-length album, to be on January 28. The lead single "Oh!" was digitally released on January 25 with the music video being released two days later. On January 30, the group started promotions with the recording of MBC Music Core. The broadcast of the performance experienced a blackout near the end, to which MBC made the whole performance available online in response. With "Oh!", the group went on to win five consecutive K-charts on KBS Music Bank, as well as achieving a triple crown on SBS Inkigayo. "Oh!" also went on to win the Music Bank half-year K-chart, coming in at second on Hanteo's first half album sales chart, and also winning the end-of-year K-chart.[citation needed] The music video ranked as the number one most viewed YouTube video in Korea by the end of 2010. It was also number one in Hong Kong and made the top ten in both the Taiwan and Japan rankings.

Starting on March 11, 2010, photos of the members were released online showcasing a dark concept, dubbed "Black SoShi". A teaser video was released on March 16, with the new single Run Devil Run being released as a digital single on March 17.

Mid-June, it was announced that the group had signed contracts in May, and would begin working under Universal Music Japan's record label Nayutawave Records for their Japanese promotions, with their first Japanese single expected to be released in September 2010. Girls' Generation began promotion in Japan in August. (Girls' Generation's Arrival First Time in Japan Commemoration Disc), a DVD featuring seven of the group's music videos as well as special bonus footage, was released on August 11, with the special edition of the DVD containing a pink glowstick as well as a pass to the Girls' Generation debut at the Tokyo Ariake Colliseum on August 25. In the first week after release, the DVD sold 23,000 copies, ranking fourth on the weekly DVD Oricon ranking and third on the weekly music DVD ranking, and made Girls' Generation the first female K-pop group to make the Oricon DVD Top-5 ranking.

Amidst their Japanese activities, the group also participated in the SMTown Live '10 World Tour alongside their label-mates on August 21 at Seoul Jamsil Olympic Stadium. They participated in the subsequent Shanghai, Los Angeles, Paris and Tokyo stops as well.

On August 25, the group held their first showcase in Tokyo Ariake Colliseum. With an initial 10,000 fans invited, it was reported to be the most large-scale plan for a Korean artist debuting in Japan. However, due to high number of expected attendees, the group's management announced that the showcase would take place three times in the same day rather than once to accommodate the large amount of fans. The group sang five of their Korean tracks at each of the showcases, and the total number of attendees over all three shows were estimated to be at least 22,000. At this showcase, the "Genie" Japanese music video was also revealed publicly for the first time and the teaser having been released a few days prior on August 20.
Their Japanese debut single "Genie" debuted at the fifth spot on the same day of its release on the Daily Oricon Charts and later rose to the second position on the Daily Charts some time later, earning the group a fourth position on the Oricon weekly ranking. The group also hit the number one spots on Japan iTunes' music video chart and both the Rekochoku daily video clip chart and incoming movie daily ranking chart a day later. With pre-orders amounting to 80,000, the single sold an estimated 45,000 copies in the first week after release. On October 20, 2010, the group released their second Japanese single, "Gee".
A week after the release of their Japanese single, the group released their third Korean mini-album, Hoot on October 27, 2010, consisting of five tracks. The video for lead single, "Hoot", a song originally written in English as "Bulletproof", was released on October 28. Girls' Generation commenced their promotional activities with a comeback stage on KBS Music Bank on October 29. "Hoot" quickly rose to the top of the charts and received the number one spot numerous times on music shows, proving to be another successful release for the group. The group simultaneously promoted "Hoot" and "Gee" in Korea and Japan respectively, and participated in Japanese music broadcasts such as the FNS Music Festival, where they performed their two Japanese singles, "Gee" and "Genie" on December 4.

On December 22, 2010, "Hoot" was repackaged with additional tracks from previous albums and released in Japan. The release rose to the second position on the Oricon charts and sold 21,000 copies on the first day, faring surprisingly well considering that all the included tracks were entirely in Korean.

On December 9, 2010, the group attended the Golden Disk Awards and was awarded three awards including the Disk Daesang (Album of the Year) for their 2nd album Oh!. The group also became the first girl group to have both a Disk Daesang (2010) and Digital Daesang (2009). On December 15, 2010, the group attended the Melon Music Awards winning the Best Dressed Singer award and Hot Trend Song award for, "Hoot", as well as the Artist of the Year award. This would be the second consecutive 'Artist of the Year' award for the group. They topped the Hanteo annual Singer Award chart for 2010.

The group was named on Asia Today's list of 50 Korean power leaders for 2011 at the number forty-fourth spot, being the only idol group from the list. Girls' Generation was designated "Artist of the Year" by Dosirak, Soribada, Korea Gallup, Hanteo and Sport Korea and also won Best Song of The Year with "Oh!" at Monkey 3.

2009: Gee, Genie, first Asian tour and rising popularity

On December 26, 2008, posters of the Girls' Generation members wearing roller-skates were posted up in various locations around Seoul. SM Entertainment's phone lines were blocked up by callers asking whether the posters were for sale and the company asked fans to stop taking the posters down for personal use. On December 29, the group's management stated that the posters were indeed teaser posters and that the group would soon release their first EP, Gee, in January 2009.

A teaser video was released in January 2009 and the first single "Gee" released soon after. "Gee" topped Cyworld's hourly music chart on the release day. The song also went number one on all major digital music charts within two days. The music video set a record on release, garnering one million views on GomTV in under a day. The group began its album promotion in January 2009 on MBC Music Core where they sang their new lead single "Gee" and the track "Himnae (Way To Go)", another song from their mini-album.

"Gee" went on to become a phenomenal hit, breaking the record for consecutive number one wins on Music Bank with nine consecutive wins, as well as receiving a triple crown on SBS Inkigayo. The track also showed strength on other charts, topping the Mujikon, Melon and Mnet charts for eight consecutive weeks, the Dosirak chart for seven weeks, the Muse chart for six weeks, and the Baksu chart for four weeks.

On May 3, 2009. Girls Generation was starred in their new reality show “SNSD Horror Movie Factory“, with the premier episode receiving a viewership rating of 3.3%. The show was then cancelled after 6 episodes due to low ratings. Since June 23, 2009, Girls’ Generation are starring Cable TV program called “SNSD’s Hello Baby” of KBS Joy.

After a short break, SM Entertainment announced that the group would be back with a new mini-album sporting a "Marine Girl" concept. The new single was to be titled "Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)", with the full mini-album being released digitally on June 22, 2009. The group started their promotional activities on June 26, 2009, appearing on KBS Music Bank. The performance was followed by follow-up comeback performances on MBC Music Core and SBS Inkigayo on June 27 and 28, 2009. The physical release of Genie was delayed by SM Entertainment in order to redo the album art, and was released four days later on June 29, 2009.

The track proved to be a success as it conquered various music sites, including Melon, Dosirak, Mnet, and Bugs, and it was number one on the weekly charts and the SKT ringtone weekly charts of the first week of July. The mini-album sold an estimated 50,000+ copies in its first week after released (almost double the numbers from the first-week sales of Gee), an unusual feat for any Korean girl group.

On November 2009, SM Entertainment announced the group's Into The New World Tour. The tour began at Seoul's Olympic Park Fencing Stadium on December 19 and 20 and continued onto other Asian cities including Shanghai.
